Special Project
This painting will be
raffled off at the Annual Convention in Las Vegas on October 17th to benefit Best Friends Animal Society.
A Very Special Thanks goes out to Garrett Davis (photographer
extraordinaire) for allowing me to reproduce a few of his world famous
photographs as oil paintings for various Best Friends events.

Garrett's photos have graced the pages of the New York
Times and National Geographic and countless other publications. There are
other contributors to this project who wish to remain private, so to
everyone involved, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for allowing me to be a
part of such a beautiful project.
"For
the Love of Squeaker"
oil on canvas 24 X 36 inches.
This is the first in an ongoing series.
There have been countless news stories written about Michael Vick and his
sickening dog-fighting ring, but perhaps this link best tells the story
behind this image captured by the genius of Garrett Davis and his camera
shortly after these tortured and scarred pit bulls arrived at Best Friends Animal
Society where they found sanctuary and love for the first time in their
lives.

This painting was framed and donated to one of Best Friends Animal Society's
fundraising events where it will be raffled off.
What I love about this incredible moment that Garrett captured is that while
it was, without a doubt, a "crazy media day-- people and cameras
everywhere", there is such a quiet stillness and solitude here....as if the
only sound was the falling snow, and the only emotions were the warmth of
love, comfort, and kindness on this cold winter day, when Mckenzie knelt
down to welcome little Squeaker to Sanctuary.
Garrett captured such a timeless breathtaking moment that speaks to all our
hearts....
I have tried to keep the magic that Garrett captured with his camera while
creating this oil painting, however, I did take the liberty to stop the snow
from falling... but only for a moment....
Below are some detail shots
of this painting for those interested in getting in closer... like mama
always says... "The Devil's In The Details"....
I tried to keep the
background cold and dark and shadowy, just as Garrett captured it.... out of
focus, thus throwing the viewers eyes to the subject. In this pic, you can
see what I think of as my "signature brushstrokes" that are often seen in my
work :-)
